Senior Trackman
Job Description
Position requires a safe-minded individual who is able to work efficiently, independently, and well with others. The Trackman is responsible for safely operating a variety of on-track and off-track heavy equipment used in railroad maintenance and construction, including the Tie Inserter, Tie Crane, Spiker, Spiker Puller, Speed Swing, and Backhoe. This role requires a safety-minded individual who can work independently and as part of a team as directed by the Senior or Junior Leadman. The operator will perform manual labor tasks, basic mechanical maintenance, and utilize computerized maintenance systems to record work performed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate Roadway Maintenance Machines (RMM) equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with manufacturer operating manuals and company policies.
- Perform daily pre-operation inspections and routine servicing of assigned equipment.
- Identify and report mechanical or safety issues promptly.
- Conduct minor equipment maintenance and adjustments as needed.
- Assist track crews with manual labor using hand tools and hydraulic tools.
- Accurately complete and submit job documentation through the company’s SAP system.
- Comply with all company safety rules, FRA Track Safety Standards (49 CFR 213), and standard operating procedures.
- Follow instructions and maintain clear communication with supervisors, team members, and railroad operations personnel.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area and contribute to housekeeping efforts at job sites.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support railroad maintenance operations.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in railroad track maintenance or related heavy equipment operation.
- Must pass company-administered assessments including, TOST/Ramsay, and other skill-based tests.
- Valid Florida Class E Driver’s License required
- Must successfully complete any required orientation, training, and continuing education courses including the following, with a score of 85% or higher:

- Railroad Operating Rules
- Must demonstrate a strong understanding of and adherence to railroad safety rules and operating practices.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively as part of a team.
- Must be proficient in communications via radio and able to obtain proper track protection from Dispatcher and/or Yardmaster.
- Must be proficient in reading, writing, and communicating in English.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
- Must have no active disciplinary actions and maintain a reliable attendance and performance record.

Working Conditions:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee works and drives in outside weather conditions on a regular basis.
- Working conditions may be rainy, hot, humid, dusty, foggy etc. depending on the weather and may be at nighttime.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
- Duties of this job at times may be performed in an office or shop environment.
- Employee is also required to drive a vehicle for extended periods.
- Employee is also required to work with MOW section, rail and tie crews.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.
- The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to handle and/or move various objects, tools and/or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, talk, hear, and see.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Visibility must extend to 62’ and beyond.
- Ability to operate and use all on-track equipment necessary and use common office equipment.
- Ability to move or handle various items generally weighing between 0-75 pounds. Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
