QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses
The following are the basic qualifications:
- High School Diploma and one year of college or technical school required.
The following are the preferred qualifications:
- Professional Certification in Boiler Operations preferred.
Experience
The following are the basic qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 years of experience operating an automated process monitoring and control system.
The following are the preferred qualifications:
- Four to five years’ experience as a Boiler Room Operator.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)
The following are the basic qualifications:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- While performing the duties of this job, the associate is frequently required to talk or hear. The associate is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The associate must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
The following are the preferred qualifications:
- Has a direct line of communication to Plant management for important issues affecting plant operations. Is responsible for all direction when there is a major power plant operation interruption and has the authority to shut operations down if the safety of personnel or property is involved.

Working Conditions
- While performing the duties of this Job, the associate is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The associate is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat. The associate is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
