Location: Clewiston Railroad Operations
Job Responsibilities
- Operate locomotives, trains to and from loading facilities
- Operate locomotives in side rail yards and industry and perform switching movements as needed
- Observe schedules to ensure trains operate on time
- Conduct locomotive inspections for defects, perform necessary minor adjustments, and document and report any defects that will make the locomotive inoperative
- Ensure the train operates at the proper speeds, amperage, and with proper air pressure in brake lines and main reservoirs
- Maintain written documentation of the job, read and apply processes and procedures according to operating and maintenance manuals
- Make an appropriate response to emergency conditions or breakdowns following safety procedures, rules, and company policy
- Once the Engineer Trainee has successfully completed the Engineer program, they will be required to fill any open Locomotive Engineer positions.
Qualifications
- Know proper operation of locomotive and airbrakes
- Ability to maintain clear and proper communication by hand signals, radio, and lantern with the Conductor and Switchman
- Ability to make quick decisions to react to emergencies
- Must read, speak, and write English
- Work with others or alone with minimal supervision.
- Have a valid driver’s license Class E or above
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations in the job
- Ability to work the posted schedule with shift work and overtime as necessary
- Must pass all company-designated tests designed to measure basic skills, job skills, mechanical aptitude, and/or other interests, skills, and characteristics with a minimum score of 85%
- No active discipline and good work history
- Educational and previous work experience will be considered

Working Conditions:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee works and drives in outside weather conditions regularly.
- Working conditions may be rainy, hot, humid, dusty, foggy, etc., depending on the weather, and may be at night time
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud
- Duties of this job are also performed in an office environment
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods
- The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to handle and/or move various objects, tools, and/or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, talk, hear, and see
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Visibility must extend to 62’ and beyond.
- Ability to operate and use all equipment necessary and use common office equipment
- Ability to move or handle various items generally weighing between 0-75 pounds. Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to bend, climb, and walk significant distances
- Mount and dismount the locomotive and check switch points for proper alignment
This position will report to Mickey Watson and/or the Trainmaster on duty.
